About the product
What is Weave?
Weave is a journaling app where the AI runs on your phone, not in a data center. You can speak or type; the app reflects on what you wrote and notices patterns across weeks and months. The point is a notebook that remembers - without needing a server to do it.
How is Weave different from Day One, Daylio, or Stoic?
Day One is a beautiful long-form journal without AI memory. Daylio is mood-tracking built around quick check-ins. Stoic combines prompts and mood but doesn't connect entries across time. Weave sits between those - a reflective companion with semantic memory that links entries written months apart, even when the wording is different. And a difference beneath the surface: the AI runs on your phone, not on a company's server.
Does Weave work offline?
Yes - the mobile app is fully offline. Voice transcription, reflection generation, and semantic search all run on your phone. The web preview at tryweave.app requires internet, but that's a preview while we finish building the mobile version.
What languages does voice journaling support?
English only at launch. Additional languages will come in later releases as on-device speech-to-text is tuned per language.
What AI models does Weave use?
The AI that transcribes your voice and reflects on your entries runs entirely on your phone - no cloud call, no model provider we pay per token. Specific models can evolve as on-device inference improves; the promise is that whatever ships on your device, that's what does the work.

Why the mobile pivot?
Weave started as a web app with cloud AI. That works, but every entry you write has to leave your phone to reach the model. The rebuild moves everything on-device: your phone is the server. It's slower to build, but it's the only architecture where "private journal" means what it sounds like. Read the longer essay at /essays/why-on-device for the full reasoning.
What happens to my web entries?
If you're already using the web preview, nothing changes for you - keep writing on the web while the mobile version ships. When mobile is ready, we'll publish a clear migration path so your existing entries move over intact. In the meantime, the data you've already written stays where it is.
Memory and reflections
How does Weave remember what I wrote?
Every entry becomes a mathematical representation of its meaning, stored locally on your phone. When you write something new, Weave searches across every past entry by meaning, not just keywords - that's why "I'm overwhelmed at work" can connect to "the pressure is crushing me" written three months ago. All of the searching happens on the device.
Privacy and trust
Who can read my entries?
No one - because they're not on our servers. On the mobile app, entries live in a local database on your phone; no company employee has technical access to your writing. On the web preview, entries are stored in our database for now, which is one of the reasons we're rebuilding for mobile.
Do you sell or share my data with advertisers or other companies?
There isn't any of your data on our end to sell. On the mobile app, your journal, your audio, your reflections all stay on the device - there's no cloud copy for us to monetize, share, or lose in a breach. The web preview is different (that data does sit in our database), which is another reason the mobile rebuild is the real product.
Is my data used to train AI?
On the mobile app, this isn't a policy - it's architecture. Your entries never leave the phone, so there's nothing to feed into a training pipeline. On the web preview your entries do live in our database, but they aren't used for training, sold, or shared with model providers.
Is my journal safe with an early-stage app?
A cloud journal requires you to trust the company. Weave requires you to trust your phone. On the mobile app, your journal doesn't depend on our uptime - if we disappear tomorrow, the app you already installed keeps working, and your entries stay yours. You can export or delete your entries at any time.
Pricing and launch
How much does Weave cost?
The iOS beta is free while it's in TestFlight. Pricing for the mobile app hasn't been set - we'll publish it transparently before charging anyone, and we won't monetize your data (there's nothing to monetize).
When does Weave launch?
The iOS beta is live on TestFlight now - you can install it today. Android is still in progress; drop your email on the beta page and we'll send you the invite when it's ready. The web preview at tryweave.app is available either way. We'll announce v1 dates when we're sure.
