A private journal on your phone.
What Weave is
Weave is a journaling app where the AI runs on your phone. You can speak or type; the app reflects on what you wrote, notices patterns across time, and keeps everything on the device. There's no cloud round-trip and no server-side copy of your writing - just a notebook that remembers, running locally.
It isn't a mood tracker, a habit app, or a productivity tool. It's closer to a reflective companion, and the goal is understanding, not optimization.
Why on-device
There's a specific discomfort in typing intimate thoughts into a service whose business model depends on data. Even if the company promises “we won't look” - the entries still sit on a server they own, and the model reading them is running on infrastructure someone else controls.
Weave started as that kind of app: a web journal that sends entries to a cloud model for reflection. The rebuild moves everything on-device - the AI runs on your phone, your entries live in a local database, and nothing syncs to a server. Even in airplane mode, the whole app keeps working.
How Weave's memory works
Every entry you write becomes a mathematical representation of its meaning, stored on your phone. When you write something new, Weave searches across every previous entry by meaning - not just by matching words. That's why “I’m overwhelmed at work” can connect to “the pressure is crushing me” you wrote three months ago, even though the words are different.
The searching, the transcription, the reflection generation - all of it happens on your device. There's no server that holds a copy of your journal to search across.
Who Weave is for
Weave is for anyone who wants to understand themselves, not just log their day. Writers, designers, therapists, and other people who think on paper are natural fits. So is anyone processing a difficult period - grief, burnout, a career change - where noticing patterns across months matters more than counting streaks.
Weave is especially for people who journal (or want to) and have a low-grade discomfort about typing intimate thoughts into a service whose business model depends on the data. Privacy-aware, not paranoid.
Weave is not a substitute for professional mental-health care. It's a journal that takes you seriously.
Who's building Weave
Weave is built by one person. Early-stage and upfront about it. The current phase is the mobile rebuild - taking what started as a cloud web app and moving everything on-device, because that's the only architecture where “private journal” means what it sounds like.
The position on data is the same one you'd want from any journaling app: no selling, no advertising, no human review of your entries. Weave makes money from people choosing to use the product - and it stays that way.
